ScribeFire Firefox Add-on for Blogging

October 24, 2007

I’m posting via ScribeFire, a FireFox Add-on.  Will it make blogging more seamless to my work life?  I’ll post more feedback in a few weeks.

Could not start Tomcat 6 on Windows XP

July 4, 2007

I recently tried installing Tomcat 6 along with JDK 1.6 and was getting an error message saying it could not start Tomcat 6.  I searched the web and found the solution: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9493825

Basically, Tomcat 6 couldn’t find a file called msvcr71.dll.  I just copied it over from c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322 to c:\windows\system32 and was able to start tomcat6 using “net start tomcat6” on the command line.  (You could start the service using services.msc too).

Hope this helps somebody else…

LogMeIn

June 26, 2007

I’ve been using LogMeIn Free for over a year now and I love it.  How could GoToMyPC compete against a product that’s free?

LogMeIn is a remote access solution that works thru proxy servers.  My guess is that both PCs connect to a central remote access server and retrieves updates from the remote access server.

Warriors ran out of gas…

May 24, 2007

It’s been awhile since I blogged.  I was in mourning along with the rest of the Bay Area…  Just kidding.  I was actually busy with work (and family).

Anyway, the Golden State Warriors running game ran out of gas.  If the team stays intact and they get a big, athletic man to play alongside Biedrins, I think they’ll go deeper into the playoffs.  NBA Western Conference Finals!!

Without the Warriors, the 2007 NBA Playoffs is back to being mediocre.  sigh..  I’m not even watching the games nowadays.  Will probably start watching again when the 2007 NBA Finals starts.

Warriors can win 2007 NBA Championship

April 28, 2007

After watching the last 10 Warriors games or so, I’m beginning to think my home team can win the NBA Championship.  After last night’s decimation of the #1 NBA team Dallas Mavericks, I can see how Golden State can match up against premiere teams like the Detroit Pistons, San Antonion Spurs or the Phoenix Suns.  Their strategy will be simple:  Run them out of the game.  Warriors like Monta Ellis, Matt Barnes are so underrated.  But “I BELIEVE”!!

 You heard it here first!

Slim Devices Squeezebox can now connect to mp3tunes.com!!!

April 25, 2007

I don’t own a Slim Devices Squeezebox yet but am itching to buy one now since the white version is on sale (till May 28, 2007) at www.slimdevices.com for $250.

I have tons of mp3s/wmas on www.mp3tunes.com and was itching to be able to access them in our family room without installing a full blow PC/Mac beside our old (circa 2002) 53″ Toshiba 1080i rear projection TV.

Twitter.com – finally a good use for SMS?

April 18, 2007

I find it easier to call somebody, leave a voicemail (specially in the US) rather than using my clumsy fingers to type out an SMS message in most occasions. But what if I can SMS several people at the same time increasing the ROI on the SMS text message I arduously typed up?? Twitter.com allows me to do just that.

There’ll come a day when an actual person being rescued/saved by his/her Twitter.com messages will be reported in the news.

“Did you buy me? Where?”

April 18, 2007

I overheard a conversation last week between my wife and my daughter who just turned 4 last month.

Audrey (daughter): Mama, did you buy me? Where did u buy me?

Grace (wife): No, we didn’t buy you. You’re priceless. You came from Mama’s tummy.

Audrey: Oh, did you eat a lot?

And last night before we went to sleep, here’s what transpired:

Audrey: Dada, who put me together?

me: Audrey, you were already a baby when you came out of Mama’s tummy…

I’m learning a lot from my conversations with my two kids. To always be inquisitive and to always question!!

Use document.getElementById ?

March 21, 2007

When I’m debugging someone else’s Javascript, I can usually fix the problem by changing dot references to a call to getElementById first.  No more memorizing the structure of the page and no more “binding” the code to the structure of the page.  getElementByid will find the element if it has a name.
